NAIDOC week - 3rd - 10th July - City of Greater Dandenong
NAIDOC is the National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee.
Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.
NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July each year. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the many and varied contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.
Kylie is an indigenous Australian name, meaning 'walk through shallow water's' and also ' boomerang come back'.
Earlier in the year Kylie was commissioned to take a series of images for the cover and an internal editorial of the 'City' magazine for The City of Greater Dandenong to celebrate NAIDOC week.
Kylie spent an hour with a gorgeous grandmother and her granddaughter. Here are a few of the images taken.
